• Manobala and Senthil first shared screen space in Sirai Paravai (1987) because director R. Selvaraj needed a comedian who could also play a serious sidekick. Senthil was already a hit, but Manobala was still finding his footing. The director paired them specifically to balance Senthil's loud energy with Manobala's deadpan reactions.
• In Thendral Sudum (1989), Manobala and Senthil developed a silent rhythm: Senthil would deliver the punchline, and Manobala would hold his reaction for an extra beat — making the joke land harder. That timing became their trademark in Mallu Vetti Minor (1990).
• Manobala and Senthil stayed close friends off-screen for decades. When Manobala turned director, he cast Senthil in his 1997 film Nesam — even though the film tanked. Senthil later said in an interview that he did the film for free because Manobala was 'like a brother who never asked for favours.'
• Their 2023 reunion in Kick happened because director Prashanth wanted a nostalgic comedy duo for a flashback scene. Manobala and Senthil's 10-second cameo got the loudest cheer in theatres — and directly inspired the makers to plan a full-length comedy track for their next film.
• Senthil once said about Manobala: 'He never tried to steal a scene. He just stood there and made me look funnier. That's a rare thing in comedy.'
