• Director A. C. Tirulokchandar cast Manorama and Vennira Aadai Nirmala together in Annaiyum Pithavum (1969) because he wanted two actresses who could switch between comedy and emotional drama in the same scene — both had proven they could do that, but nobody had paired them before.
• In Thanga Gopuram (1971), Manorama set the comic timing and Nirmala followed her lead — but Nirmala would quietly slip in improvised one-liners that made Manorama break character. The director kept those takes because the laughter was real.
