• They first shared screen space in Akhri Insaaf (1980), a courtroom drama where Ashok Kumar played the judge and Vijayendra Ghatge played the accused. The director, S. A. Kader, deliberately cast them as legal opposites to create tension — and it worked so well that they signed two more films within a year.
• In Jyoti (1981), Ashok Kumar played a blind father and Vijayendra Ghatge played his son. Kumar deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery in every scene with Ghatge, forcing the younger actor to match his pace — a trick he used to teach Ghatge how to hold a pause for emotional weight.
• During the shoot of Ram Tera Desh (1984), Ashok Kumar would invite Vijayendra Ghatge to his vanity van every morning for chai and a game of chess. Ghatge later said those sessions were his real acting school — Kumar would break down scenes between moves.
