• Juhi Chawla was a fresh Miss India winner with zero acting experience when she signed 'Shandaar' (1990). Birbal, already a veteran comedian, personally vouched for her to the producer after seeing her screen test — he told the team she had 'the kind of spark that can't be taught.'
• On the sets of 'Mehandi Ban Gai Khoon' (1991), Birbal would deliberately flub his lines in the first take to make Juhi laugh and loosen up. She later said his goofing around was the only reason she didn't freeze in front of the camera during her early fight scenes.
• Birbal and Juhi shared a running joke during the shoot of 'Izzat Ki Roti' (1993): every time a scene required them to cry, Birbal would whisper a pun about the caterer's bad food just before 'action' — and Juhi would have to hide her laugh behind a fake sob. The director never caught on.
• Juhi Chawla once said in a 1994 interview: 'Birbal ji was my first proper co-star. He didn't treat me like a newcomer — he treated me like a partner. If I messed up a dialogue, he'd say, "Let's do it again, I think I was off." That's the kind of man he is.'
• The only reason Juhi Chawla got her breakthrough role in 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' (1988) was because Birbal recommended her to producer Nasir Hussain after working with her on 'Shandaar'. Hussain had never heard of her — Birbal insisted she was 'the next big thing'.
