• Arjun was already a rising star when he agreed to do 'Engal Kural' (1985) opposite S. S. Chandran, who was mostly known as a comedian. Chandran later admitted he was nervous acting opposite a lead hero, but Arjun insisted on equal billing — that gesture sealed their working relationship.
• On the set of 'Thaipasam' (1988), Arjun would deliberately slow down his dialogue delivery in emotional scenes so Chandran could match his rhythm. Chandran, in turn, would add comic timing to tense moments — a trade-off that made their scenes together feel like a single performance.
• During the shoot of 'En Thangai' (1989), Arjun and Chandran shared a room in a small lodge in Tenkasi for three weeks. They would rehearse scenes at night using a single bulb, and Chandran would make filter coffee for both of them every morning — a ritual they kept for all five films.
• The success of 'Engal Kural' (1985) directly led to producer K. B. S. Mani casting both of them again in 'Nagam' (1985) — the first time a Tamil film had a hero and a comedian as co-leads in a horror-comedy.
