Director Trivikram Srinivas initially wanted a different actor for the comic sidekick part. Mahesh auditioned twice and got the nod only after Rao Ramesh personally vouched for him during a script reading.
• In Prathi Roju Pandaage (2019), Rao Ramesh played the strict father while Mahesh Achanta played the goofy friend. The comedy worked because Rao Ramesh deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery by half a beat, letting Mahesh's rapid-fire punchlines land harder. Mahesh later said he learned comic timing just by watching Rao Ramesh's pauses.
