Mammootty (born Muhammad Kutty Panaparambil Ismail) is a Malayalam cinema actor widely regarded as one of the greatest performers in Indian film history, known primarily for his work in Malayalam but also active in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films. He won three National Film Awards for Best Actor — for Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Mathilukal (1990), Vidheyan and Ponthan Mada (1994), and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (1997), in which he portrayed B. R. Ambedkar — and has received eleven Kerala State Film Awards, sixteen Filmfare Awards South, the Padma Shri (1998), and the Padma Bhushan (2026). His Tamil film work includes the Mani Ratnam-directed Thalapathi (1991) alongside Rajinikanth, and Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000) with Aishwarya Rai, while his Tamil career also spans films like Peranbu (2019) and Yatra (2019).
