• They first shared screen space in Pilla Zamindar (2011), but neither was the lead. Vennela Kishore played a small comic role while Rao Ramesh played the hero's father. The director, G. Nageswara Reddy, deliberately paired them as a test — he wanted to see if their contrasting energies (Rao Ramesh's deadpan authority vs. Kishore's manic silliness) could coexist in the same frame. They did, and the film's comedy track became a talking point.
• In S/O Satyamurthy (2015), Rao Ramesh played a strict, morally rigid father while Vennela Kishore played a goofy sidekick. The trick they discovered on set: Rao Ramesh would deliver his lines with absolute seriousness, and Kishore would react with exaggerated confusion — not at the dialogue, but at the sheer intensity of Rao Ramesh's face. That mismatch became their signature. Kishore later said in an interview that he learned to 'play off Rao Ramesh's stillness' because any movement from him felt funnier against a statue.
• Their double-act in Duvvada Jagannadham (2017) directly inspired the comic pairing in the 2022 film 'Bheemla Nayak'. The director of that film, Saagar K Chandra, told a Telugu daily that he specifically asked his writers to study the 'Rao Ramesh-Vennela Kishore rhythm' from DJ to build the banter between the hero and his sidekick.
• On the sets of Maharshi (2019), the two developed a ritual: before every scene together, they would shake hands and Rao Ramesh would say 'Mana comedy correct ga undali' (Our comedy must be right). Kishore later revealed this in a podcast, saying it was Rao Ramesh's way of reminding them both that their job was to serve the scene, not just get laughs.
• Vennela Kishore, in a 2022 interview with The Hindu, said about Rao Ramesh: 'He is the only actor who can make me laugh without moving a muscle. I just stand next to him and my job is half done. He gives me the silence I need to be loud.'
• In Pushpa (2021), they had only one scene together — but it's the scene where Rao Ramesh (as the forest officer) threatens Kishore's character. Kishore improvised a stammer mid-dialogue, and Rao Ramesh paused, then deliberately slowed his own delivery to match the stammer's rhythm. That unscripted beat made the tension both funny and menacing. The director Sukumar kept it in the final cut.
