• Hirani almost didn't cast Boman in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. He wanted a more 'serious' actor for Dr. Asthana. Boman auditioned with a monologue he wrote himself — Hirani later said that audition made him laugh so hard he knew no one else could play the role.
• On the set of 3 Idiots, Hirani realized Boman could switch between comedy and pathos in a single take. He started writing longer, uninterrupted shots for Boman's character — the 'Virus' speech in the rain was shot in one continuous take because Hirani trusted Boman to hold the emotion without cuts.
