• Bharathi Kannan was a struggling assistant director when he wrote Kannathaal. He didn't have a hero. Karan, then a newcomer himself, read the script in one sitting and agreed to act — no questions asked. That handshake started their run.
• On the sets of Thirunelveli, Karan would rewrite his own dialogues in the morning and show them to Bharathi Kannan. The director would then rework the scene around Karan's lines. They traded the script back and forth like a tennis match — no ego, just speed.
• After Mahachandi flopped in 2002, they didn't speak for nearly a decade. Karan later admitted in a 2015 interview that he felt he'd let Bharathi Kannan down with his performance. They patched up only in 2018 at a mutual friend's wedding.
• Bharathi Kannan once said: 'Karan was the only actor who would call me at 2 AM to discuss a single line. I'd be half asleep, but I'd listen — because he was always right.'
• Their 2000 film Thirunelveli was the first Tamil movie to shoot extensively in the real Thirunelveli district — not a set. Local vendors and temple priests appeared as extras. That raw location style later inspired a wave of 'town-based' Tamil thrillers in the early 2000s.
