• Singampuli was a struggling assistant director when Ravi Mariya cast him as the lead in Goripalayam (2010). Mariya saw him hanging around sets and told him, 'You have the face of a killer — I’ll write a role for you.' That film put both of them on the map.
• In Milaga (2010), Ravi Mariya deliberately gave Singampuli no dialogue for the first 20 minutes. He wanted the audience to read his eyes. Singampuli later said that silence taught him more than any acting class.
• Manam Kothi Paravai (2012) was the first Tamil film to use a single-take fight sequence in a village setting. That scene — a 4-minute brawl with no cuts — became a reference point for stunt choreographers in Kollywood for the next five years.
• On every shoot, Ravi Mariya would make Singampuli eat a raw egg before the first take. He believed it 'kept the anger in his eyes.' Singampuli hated it but never refused.
• Singampuli once said in an interview: 'Ravi Mariya doesn't direct actors. He breaks them and rebuilds them on set. After Goripalayam, I couldn't look at myself in the mirror for a week.'
• Jigina (2015) was the first Tamil film to feature a transgender character in a non-comic, non-villain role. The character was written specifically because Ravi Mariya and Singampuli argued for three days about representation — and Singampuli refused to sign the film unless the role was rewritten.
