- During the shoot of Idhaya Thamarai (1990), Moorthy would bring homemade snacks for the entire crew every Friday. Karthik once joked that he signed the film only because Moorthy promised 'weekly bonda supply.' The two remained close until Moorthy's death in 2019.
- Their third film together, Idhaya Thamarai (1990), was the first Tamil film to feature a father-son emotional breakdown scene shot in a single continuous take — a technique Moorthy suggested after watching a French film. That scene later inspired director Bala's signature long-take style in Sethu (1999).
