• Mayilsamy was a popular comedian on TV before films. Saranya Ponvannan specifically asked director Boopathy Pandian to cast him in Thiruvilaiyaadal Aarambam (2006). She felt his timing would match her naturalistic style. That film became their first together.
• In Remo (2016), Saranya played a strict hospital warden. Mayilsamy played her subordinate. The comedy came from her deadpan authority vs his nervous chatter. He later said she deliberately held her pauses longer in every take, forcing him to fill the silence — which made his reactions funnier.
• Mayilsamy once revealed in an interview that Saranya would call him 'anna' (elder brother) on set, even though he was younger. She did it to make him feel comfortable during their first film together. He said it broke his nervousness instantly.
• Mayilsamy said about Saranya: 'She doesn't act like a star. She acts like your neighbour. When I worked with her, I forgot I was acting. I just reacted.' He said this in a 2017 interview about Jeyikkira Kuthira.
