Prathap K. Pothan (also known as Pratap Pothen) was a Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu cinema actor, director, and scriptwriter born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, who appeared in approximately 100 films over four decades. He gained early recognition through Tamil films such as Panneer Pushpangal (1981) and Amma (1982), and later won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director at the 32nd National Film Awards for Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai. As a director, he helmed 12 films across Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu industries, including Jeeva and Vettri Vizhaa (1989) featuring Kamal Haasan. In his later career he took supporting roles in films such as Poojai (2014) and Indrajith (2017), before his death on 15 July 2022 in Chennai.
