• Tirulokchandar cast Sridevi in 'Vanakkatukuriya Kathaliye' (1978) right after she had a massive hit with '16 Vayathinile'. He wanted that raw, rebellious energy for his film — and she signed on without even reading the full script.
• On the sets of 'Pilot Premnath' (1978), Tirulokchandar let Sridevi improvise most of her comic timing. He told the crew to just roll camera and let her go — that film's best laughs came from her unscripted reactions to Premnath's stunts.
• During 'Viswaroopam' (1980), Tirulokchandar personally drove Sridevi to the hospital when she fell ill on set. He waited outside the ward for four hours. She later said he was the only director who treated her like a daughter, not a star.
• Sridevi once told a magazine: 'Tirulokchandar sir never shouted at me. Even when I messed up a scene, he'd just say, "Again, but better." That made me want to give him my best take every time.'
• The success of 'Vanakkatukuriya Kathaliye' directly led to Tirulokchandar casting Sridevi in his next big project — and that film's soundtrack became a chartbuster. Without this first collaboration, the pair might never have made 'Pilot Premnath' or 'Viswaroopam'.
