• Suseenthiran was a debutant director with no hits when he cast Vishnu Vishal as the lead in Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu (2009). Vishnu was also a newcomer. The film was shot on a shoestring budget, and both of them essentially bet their careers on a film about a village kabadi team. It worked — the film became a sleeper hit and put both on the map.
• On the sets of Jeeva (2014), Suseenthiran pushed Vishnu Vishal to do his own stunts — no body double. Vishnu ended up with a fractured rib during a fight sequence. But the director didn't cut the scene; he used the real pain in Vishnu's face. That raw physicality became the film's signature.
