• Ezhil and Robo Shankar first teamed up for Deepavali (2007) because the director needed a comedian who could match the film's festive, chaotic energy. Robo Shankar was still finding his footing in cinema, and Ezhil took a chance on him after seeing his stage act.
• In Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran (2016), Ezhil let Robo Shankar improvise most of his dialogue. The result? Robo's spontaneous one-liners became the film's biggest talking point, and Ezhil later admitted he kept the camera rolling just to catch his ad-libs.
• During the shoot of Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen (2017), Robo Shankar would show up to set an hour early every day just to rehearse with Ezhil. The director said it was the most disciplined he'd ever seen a comedian be.
• The success of Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran (2016) directly led to Robo Shankar getting his first solo lead role in a comedy film the following year. Ezhil had recommended him to another producer after seeing how he carried the film's humour.
