• Zeenat Aman was the bigger star when they first worked together in Professor Pyarelal (1981). Vinod Mehra was cast as the male lead opposite her, but the film flopped hard. Still, she pushed for him again in Yeh Desh (1984) because she felt he was underrated.
• In Yeh Desh (1984), Zeenat played a fiery journalist while Vinod played a stoic army officer. She set the emotional pace in their scenes — he would hold back, let her rage, then underplay his reaction. That contrast made their arguments crackle.
• Vinod Mehra was one of the few co-stars Zeenat genuinely trusted off-camera. During the shoot of Namumkin (1988), she was going through a very public breakup with Rajesh Khanna. Vinod would sit with her between takes, not to talk about it, just to keep her company.
