Partnership facts

• Govinda was already a rising star when he agreed to do Pyaar Mohabbat (1988), but he specifically asked for Ajay Kashyap as the director because he liked Kashyap's earlier work. Kashyap was a debutant director at the time.
• On the sets of Do Qaidi (1989), Govinda would often improvise comic lines during takes. Ajay Kashyap let him run with it, then built entire scenes around those ad-libs. That film's slapstick tone came directly from Govinda's on-the-spot ideas.
• After Zordaar (1996) flopped, Govinda and Ajay Kashyap had a falling out over creative differences. They never spoke again for nearly a decade. Kashyap later said in an interview that Govinda stopped taking his calls after the film's release.
• Ajay Kashyap once said about Govinda: 'He would come to the set with ten different ways to say one line. I just had to pick the best one.' He said this in a 1990 interview with Stardust magazine.
• The success of Do Qaidi (1989) at the box office convinced producer Pahlaj Nihalani to cast Govinda in his next film, which became the massive hit Aankhen (1993). That film's comedy style was directly influenced by the Govinda-Kashyap template.
