• For Kachche Dhaage (1999), director Milan Luthria wanted two actors who looked like they could actually kill each other. Saif and Ajay had never shared a frame before. Luthria threw them into a room and told them to hate each other for real. They came out friends.
• In Omkara (2006), Ajay played the brutal, brooding Othello figure. Saif played the slimy, charming Iago. Vishal Bhardwaj said he cast them specifically because Ajay’s stillness made Saif’s restlessness pop. Saif’s constant fidgeting and smirk made Ajay’s silence feel like a threat.
• Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020) was the first time they played allies instead of enemies. The film became Ajay’s biggest solo hit at the time. Saif later said that playing the villain in that film was the only reason he agreed to do it — because he knew Ajay would never let the film be mediocre.
• On the sets of LOC Kargil (2003), Saif and Ajay shared a vanity van for two months. Ajay would cook eggs in the morning. Saif would bring coffee. They never fought once. Saif later joked that the only tension between them was over who got the last paratha.
