• They first shared screen space in Bhishma (1996), a film that was originally meant to be a solo vehicle for Mithun Chakraborty. The director added Joshi and Gill as the villain duo only after seeing their separate work in TV serials — and then rewrote the entire second half around their cat-and-mouse dynamic.
• In Ustadon Ke Ustad (1998), Joshi played the calm, calculating mastermind while Gill was the hot-headed enforcer. Gill later said in an interview that Joshi would deliberately slow down his dialogue delivery in scenes to make Gill's outbursts land harder — a trick they never rehearsed, just felt on set.
• During the shoot of Phool Aur Aag (1999), Joshi and Gill shared a room in a small Ooty hotel for 45 days. They spent evenings reading out old Hindi film dialogues to each other — Gill later claimed they memorized entire sequences from Sholay just for fun.
