Partnership facts

• They first shared screen space in 'Aaj Ki Awaz' (1984) because director R. Kumar cast them as opposing lawyers — Babbar the righteous crusader, Inamdar the slippery antagonist. The courtroom face-off became the film's most talked-about scene.
• In 'Insaaf Ki Awaaz' (1986), Babbar played the intense, brooding hero while Inamdar underplayed the comic sidekick — a rhythm they repeated in all four films. Babbar set the emotional pitch; Inamdar would undercut it with a deadpan line, keeping the tone from getting too heavy.
• Off-screen, they were close enough that Inamdar would crash at Babbar's place during Mumbai shoots. Babbar later recalled that Inamdar never once talked about his own theatre background — he just showed up, did his job, and left without any ego.
