• Shabana Azmi was the one who pushed for Sanjeev Kumar to play her father in 'Hum Paanch' (1980). The director B.R. Chopra had initially considered someone else, but Shabana insisted Sanjeev had the gravitas for the role — even though he was only 13 years older than her.
• In 'Namkeen' (1982), Sanjeev Kumar deliberately underplayed every scene opposite Shabana. He told the director Gulzar that her character needed to dominate the emotional arc, so he pulled back his own intensity — a rare move for a male star at the time.
