Refugee(2000)
Refugee is a 2000 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by J. P. Dutta. It stars Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor in their debut roles, with Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and Anupam Kher in supporting parts. The story follows an unnamed smuggler who helps illegal refugees cross the India-Pakistan border through the Great Rann of Kutch. He falls in love with Nazneen, a girl from a family fleeing to Pakistan. Their romance is tested by border tensions, a Pakistani army officer, and a terrorist conspiracy. The film was inspired by the short story 'Love Across the Salt Desert'. Its music, composed by Anu Malik with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, won two National Film Awards.
