Kavalan Avan Kovalan is a 1987 Indian Tamil-language comedy-drama film written and directed by Visu. The film stars Prabhu in a dual role as Chakravarthi, a renowned film director, and Pachaiyappan, a simple village boy. Rekha plays Uma, Chakravarthi's devout wife, while Madhuri portrays Anjalai, Pachaiyappan's love interest. The story follows Pachaiyappan as he travels to Madras to find work and is mistaken for his lookalike, the famous director. This case of mistaken identity leads to a series of comedic and dramatic events, including blackmail, a secret affair, and a broken engagement. The film was praised for Prabhu's dual performance and Vijay Anand's music. It was released on 29 May 1987.
