• Prabhu and Reka first paired up in 'Megam Karuthirukku' (1987) because director Manobala needed a fresh, innocent-looking couple. Reka was just 16, and Prabhu was already a star — but he insisted on doing the film because he felt her screen presence made him look more vulnerable, which the role demanded.
• In 'Kalaiyum Neeye Maalaiyum Neeye' (1988), Prabhu deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery to match Reka's natural rhythm. He told the director that if he spoke at his usual pace, the romantic scenes would feel one-sided. That film's love scenes have a unique, unhurried beat because of this choice.
• Reka has said in interviews that Prabhu would bring her filter coffee from a specific shop in Chennai every single day during the shoot of 'Irumbu Pookkal' (1991). She was a nervous newcomer, and he told her: 'Just focus on the scene. I'll handle the coffee.' They stayed in touch until she quit films in the mid-90s.
• Their 1987 film 'Kavalan Avan Kovalan' was the first Tamil movie to feature a female-led comic subplot where Reka's character pranks Prabhu's. That scene — where she ties his dhoti to a chair — became a template for later 90s rom-coms like 'Kadhalukku Mariyadhai'.
• Reka once told a Tamil magazine: 'Prabhu never treated me like a co-star. He treated me like a younger sister who needed protection on set. That's why I could cry on cue in all our sad scenes — I felt safe.'
• Their last film together, 'Muthuramalingam' (2017), happened only because Reka's son — who was a Prabhu fan — begged her to act again. She agreed on one condition: Prabhu had to play her husband, not her father. He was 60, she was 46. The director rewrote the age gap into the script.
