Trivia

  • The film's title 'Uyarndha Ullam' translates to 'Elevated Heart' and was inspired by a popular 1965 Tamil novel of the same name by novelist Sivasankari.
  • This was the first film where actor Radharavi, who plays Selvam, got a major supporting role, marking a career breakthrough for him.
  • The movie was shot extensively at the famous AVM Studios in Chennai, a common production hub for many classic Tamil films of that era.
  • Composer Ilaiyaraaja reused the tune of the song 'Kannan Oru Kai Kuzhandhai' from this film for a later hit song in the 1986 Telugu movie 'Swathi Muthyam'.
  • Actress Ambika, who plays the female lead, was a popular star in Malayalam cinema and this role helped increase her recognition in the Tamil film industry.
  • The film's plot shares similarities with the 1964 Hindi film 'Sangam', particularly in its themes of friendship and sacrifice between the male characters.
  • Despite starring Kamal Haasan, the movie had a moderate box office performance and is not among his most commercially successful films from the 1980s.
