Trivia
- The film was originally planned as a remake of the 1954 Hollywood movie 'The Barefoot Contessa', but the script evolved into an original story.
- Ramesh Sippy shot the film's iconic beach scenes in Goa, which was a relatively uncommon location for major Hindi films at the time.
- Kamal Haasan was initially considered for the role of Raja, but the part ultimately went to Rishi Kapoor.
- The song 'Saagar Kinare' was filmed at a real seaside cliff in Goa, with Dimple Kapadia performing her own stunts without a body double.
- The film's climax was reshot after test audiences felt the original ending was too tragic, leading to a more hopeful conclusion.
- It marked the first and only time veteran actors Shammi Kapoor and Tanuja appeared together as an on-screen couple.
- Despite mixed initial reviews, the film was a commercial success and completed a silver jubilee run in several theaters.
