Trivia

  • The film is a modern adaptation of the Tenali Raman folk tales, but set in a fictional kingdom with contemporary political satire.
  • Director Yuvaraj Dhayalan also co-wrote the screenplay, drawing inspiration from classic Tamil comedy films of the 1990s.
  • Actor Vadivelu, who plays Tenaliraman, performed many of his own stunts in the comedy action sequences.
  • The movie's fictional 'Vigada Nagar' kingdom sets were built from scratch, including a large palace and village, at a studio in Chennai.
  • Despite mixed reviews, the film had a strong opening weekend at the Tamil Nadu box office due to Vadivelu's fan following.
  • The soundtrack by D. Imman includes a folk-inspired song 'Kadhal Vandhale' that references traditional Tamil folk music styles.
  • A subplot involving Chinese traders was seen as a humorous take on globalisation and local business concerns in India.
