Trivia
- This was the only Tamil film directed by Selva, who was better known as a cinematographer for movies like 'Nayakan'.
- The film's music was composed by Ilaiyaraaja, but it had only one song, which was unusual for a Tamil romance drama at the time.
- Actress Roja, who played the lead, was already a popular star in Telugu cinema but was still building her career in Tamil films.
- The movie's title 'Amaravathi' shares its name with a famous ancient city and a river in Andhra Pradesh, though the story is not directly about that place.
- It was released during a period when many Tamil films were being shot extensively in picturesque hill stations like Ooty, which this film also features.
- The plot involves the heroine running away from home, a theme common in 1990s Tamil cinema, often used to drive family-oriented stories.
- Despite having a popular music director and lead actress, the film did not achieve major commercial success at the box office.
