• Selva was a newcomer director when he cast Charle in 'Amaravathi' (1993). Charle was already a known face from TV. Selva later said he picked Charle because he needed an actor who could look vulnerable and angry at the same time — and Charle was the only one who auditioned without any ego.
• On the set of 'Pooveli' (1998), Charle would rewrite his own lines in Tamil slang during lunch breaks. Selva let him do it. The result was a natural, conversational tone that critics praised — but the original script was in pure literary Tamil. Charle's edits made it feel like real conversation.
• After 'Aasaiyil Oru Kaditham' (1999) flopped, Selva and Charle stopped talking for nearly a decade. Charle later admitted in a 2010 interview that he felt Selva blamed him for the film's failure. They only reconciled when they ran into each other at a dubbing studio in 2008.
• The song 'Pooveli' from the 1998 film of the same name became a cult hit on FM radio in the early 2000s. It directly inspired a generation of Tamil indie bands to write love songs with simple, spoken-word verses — something that wasn't common in Tamil cinema before.
