• Mammootty was already a Malayalam superstar when he signed Mounam Sammadham (1990), but he insisted on dubbing his own Tamil lines — a rare move for an outsider. Charlie, then a rising director, rewrote several scenes to match Mammootty's natural delivery style.
• On the sets of Thalapathi (1991), Charlie reportedly told Mammootty to stop acting like a 'hero' and instead play Devar as a man who never raises his voice. Mammootty took that note so seriously that he barely blinked during their key confrontation scene — and Rajinikanth later said that stillness made him nervous.
• Charlie's Kilipetchu Ketkava (1993) was the first Tamil film to cast Mammootty in a full-length rural comedy role — a gamble that directly inspired director K. S. Ravikumar to cast him in the hit comedy Muthu (1995) two years later.
• After Junior Senior (2002) flopped, Charlie and Mammootty didn't speak for nearly a decade. They patched up only in 2011, when Mammootty called Charlie out of the blue to ask why he'd stopped making films. Charlie later said that call made him cry.
