• Radha was the bigger star when they first paired up for Japanil Kalyanaraman (1985). She was coming off a hit streak. Kovai Sarala was still finding her footing. The director paired them specifically because he wanted Radha's glamour to balance Sarala's comic timing.
• In Uzhavan Magan (1987), Sarala's character was the loud, street-smart sidekick while Radha played the dignified village belle. Sarala set the pace with rapid-fire dialogue, and Radha slowed it down with emotional beats. They never stepped on each other's lines — that was their trick.
• On the sets of Anand (1987), the two actresses shared a makeup room and reportedly spent hours teaching each other dance steps. Radha, a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, helped Sarala with posture for a song sequence. Sarala later said Radha was the only co-star who never made her feel like a 'side actress'.
