• Sarkunam didn't want to cast Vimal in Kalavani (2010). He thought Vimal looked too young and soft for the village role. Vimal begged for a screen test, did the scene in full dialect on the spot, and Sarkunam changed his mind right there.
• On Vaagai Sooda Vaa (2011), Sarkunam deliberately gave Vimal no rehearsal for the emotional breakdown scene after the temple sequence. He wanted the rawness of a first take. Vimal broke down so hard the crew had to pause shooting for ten minutes.
• Kalavani (2010) directly launched the 'village boy with a heart' trend in Tamil cinema. Before it, comedians played village characters. Vimal's performance made producers greenlight a wave of rural romances — including films like Attakathi and Paradesi that followed its template.

• For Kalavani 2 (2019), Sarkunam wrote the climax fight scene specifically around Vimal's real-life fear of heights. He made the villain corner Vimal on a narrow rooftop ledge. Vimal's genuine panic in the wide shot is unscripted — Sarkunam kept the camera rolling.
