• Arya was a newcomer when Vishnuvardhan cast him in Arinthum Ariyamalum (2005). The director saw him in a short film and took a gamble — no big star, no backup. That film put both of them on the map.
• Vishnuvardhan wrote Pattiyal (2006) specifically around Arya's raw energy. He told Arya to play the character like a caged animal — no polish, just instinct. Arya's performance became the film's heartbeat.
• Their third film Sarvam (2009) was a sci-fi thriller — a genre almost nobody attempted in Tamil then. It flopped hard, but it inspired later filmmakers to experiment with VFX-heavy stories. Without Sarvam, you might not get films like 24 or I.
• On the sets of Arrambam (2013), Vishnuvardhan and Arya had a running bet: whoever flubbed a dialogue first had to buy biryani for the entire crew. Arya lost almost every day. The crew ate well for two months.
• Arya once said in an interview: 'Vishnu doesn't just direct me — he fights with me, argues with me, and then we go eat together. That's why our films feel alive.'
• In Yatchan (2015), Vishnuvardhan deliberately pushed Arya out of his comfort zone — no loud dialogues, no action hero swagger. He made Arya play a quiet, broken man. Arya later admitted it was the hardest role Vishnu ever gave him.
