Kalavani is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film written and directed by A. Sarkunam. The film stars Vimal as Arivazhagan (Arikki) and debutante Oviya as Maheshwari. It is set in two rival villages in Thanjavur, where a lazy young man falls in love with a girl from the opposing side. The story follows his transformation from a selfish thief to a responsible husband. The film was made on a shoestring budget and became a sleeper hit upon its release on 25 June 2010. Critics praised it as a "complete entertainer" and a "delightful rural romance." The music was composed by S. S. Kumaran, with lyrics by Na. Muthukumar. The film was later remade in Kannada as Kirataka and in Telugu as Umapathi.

Storyline

Arikki is a lazy village boy who steals money from his mother and spends his days drinking. He meets Maheshwari from a rival village and falls in love. But her violent brother Ilango will kill anyone who touches her. Arikki must win her love and survive her brother's rage.
