• B. Gopal was a junior artist on Kota Srinivasa Rao's sets before he became a director. When Gopal finally got his big break with Chinna Rayudu (1992), he cast Kota as the villain — the first time Kota played a full-length negative role in a mass movie.
• On the sets of Samarasimha Reddy (1999), Kota would deliberately overact in his first take. B. Gopal would then pull him aside and whisper, 'Kota garu, audience ki nuvvu villain ani telusu. Thakkuva chey.' Kota would dial it down, and that restrained version made it to the final cut.
• The success of Samarasimha Reddy (1999) directly led to B. Gopal casting Kota in Vamsi (2000) — but this time as a comic villain. That film's tone shift inspired a wave of 'comedy villain' roles in early 2000s Telugu cinema, with Kota becoming the go-to guy for that blend.
• Kota and B. Gopal had a standing ritual: before every film's first day shoot, Kota would bring a box of Kakinada kaja from his hometown. Gopal would break one piece, eat it, and say 'Intha tiyyaga undali cinema kuda.' They did this for all four films.
• B. Gopal once said in an interview: 'Kota garu is the only actor who can make me laugh and cry in the same scene. I wrote Aaradugula Bullet (2017) just to see him do that one more time.'
