• Neelam was already a rising star when Shibu Mitra cast her in Ilzaam (1986). He was a debutant director. She took a chance on him. That film became her first big commercial hit.
• In Aag Hi Aag (1987), Shibu Mitra shot Neelam in a way that made her look tougher than the male lead. He framed her low and wide in action scenes. She didn't just react — she drove the fight. That was rare for a heroine in the late 80s.
