• Shibu Mitra and Vinod Mehra first teamed up for Raakhi Ki Saugandh (1979) because the director, Suraj Prakash, needed a fresh pair for a brother-sister revenge drama. Neither was a first choice — the casting was a last-minute gamble that somehow clicked.
• In Sumbandh (1982), Vinod Mehra played the intense, brooding lead while Shibu Mitra handled the comic relief and action beats. Mehra set the emotional tone; Mitra kept the energy up. They never stepped on each other's scenes.
• On the sets of Meri Zabaan (1989), Shibu Mitra and Vinod Mehra shared a room in a small hotel in Ooty for three weeks. They reportedly played chess every night after pack-up — Mehra always won, but Mitra never stopped challenging him.
• Vinod Mehra once told a trade magazine: 'Shibu is the only co-star who would argue with me about a scene and then buy me chai afterwards. That's real friendship.'
