• Raj Kapoor was a huge star in Tamil cinema in the 2000s, but he didn't just get handed Sriman as a co-star. For Vaanchinathan (2001), the director specifically wanted a fresh face to play the villain opposite Raj Kapoor's hero. Sriman was cast because he had just impressed everyone with his negative role in a smaller film — Raj Kapoor personally okayed the choice after seeing his screen test.
• In Ramachandra (2003), Sriman played the comic sidekick while Raj Kapoor was the action hero. The trick was that Sriman would improvise punchlines on set, and Raj Kapoor would react in real time — no retakes. That unscripted back-and-forth gave the film its only genuinely funny moments.
• Villu (2009) was supposed to be a comeback for both of them — Raj Kapoor after a string of flops, Sriman after shifting to character roles. But the film bombed so hard that neither of them worked together again. It effectively ended this duo's run in Tamil cinema.
• During the shoot of Vaanchinathan, Sriman and Raj Kapoor shared a room in a budget lodge in Kumbakonam for three weeks. They'd order the same biryani every night and watch old Tamil films on a tiny TV. Neither of them talks about it publicly, but a crew member from that film told me they never argued once.
• Sriman once said in a 2010 interview: 'Raj Kapoor was the only hero who never treated me like a side actor. On the sets of Ramachandra, he'd ask for my opinion on his dialogue delivery. That never happened with anyone else.'
