Biography
Devaraj (S. Devarajan) was a Tamil film director best known as one half of the directing duo Devaraj–Mohan, active in Tamil cinema during the 1970s. The duo directed Annakili (1976), starring Sivakumar and Sujatha, which won the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Tamil and marked the debut of composer Ilaiyaraaja, and Kavikkuyil (1977), which featured Sivakumar, Sridevi, and a young Rajinikanth in a supporting role. Devaraj–Mohan were known for producing quality films on low budgets with high commercial returns, and for introducing more morally complex protagonists into Tamil mainstream cinema. The duo directed approximately 19–20 films between 1973 and 1980 before dissolving their partnership.
