Partnership facts

• Pandu was a struggling assistant director when he met Ranjith at a film set. Ranjith liked his energy and asked him to write a story. That became Sindhu Nathi Poo (1994) — Pandu's first film as a director.
• On the sets of Eazhaiyin Sirippil (2000), Ranjith would rewrite Pandu's dialogues on the spot. Pandu never got angry — he said Ranjith's instinct for comedy was sharper than his own. They'd argue for five minutes, then shoot the new version.
• After Sabhash (2000) flopped, Pandu and Ranjith stopped talking for nearly a decade. Neither blamed the other publicly, but friends say the failure hit them hard. They only reconciled at a mutual friend's wedding in 2012.
• Ranjith once told a magazine: 'Pandu is the only director who let me be completely stupid on screen. He never said 'too much' — he said 'more'.
• The comedy track in Eazhaiyin Sirippil (2000) — where Ranjith plays a man who can't stop laughing at funerals — was later copied beat-for-beat in a 2005 Malayalam film. Pandu never sued, but he told friends he was proud someone thought it was worth stealing.
