Partnership facts

• For Thanga Gopuram (1971), director K. Balachander cast Major Sundarrajan as the lead. But he needed a fresh face for the female lead. He picked Srividya, then a newcomer. That film launched her into Tamil cinema.
• In Neenga Nalla Irukkanum (1992), Major Sundarrajan played a strict father. Srividya played his wife. Their scenes together had a quiet tension — he barked, she soothed. That push-pull made the family drama work.
• Major Sundarrajan was a mentor to Srividya on the sets of Thanga Gopuram. He taught her how to hit marks for the camera. She later said he treated her like a daughter, not a co-star.
• Srividya once said in an interview: 'Major Sundarrajan sir made me feel safe on my first film. He would whisper the next line if I forgot it.'
• Their third film together, Purusha Lakshanam (1993), was a remake of a Malayalam hit. But it flopped. After that, neither worked with the other again. The pairing just ended.
