Partnership facts

• Pandu was a popular comedian in the 90s, but Murali was a newcomer. For their first film together, Kaalamellam Kadhal Vaazhga (1997), the director paired them specifically because he wanted a seasoned comic to bounce off Murali's raw energy. Pandu later said he agreed only after Murali personally came to his house and requested him.
• In Kaadhale Nimmadhi (1998), Pandu and Murali improvised an entire scene where Pandu's character tries to teach Murali's character how to flirt. The director kept the camera rolling because they were cracking each other up. That scene became the film's most talked-about comedy bit.
• During the shoot of Unnudan (1998), Pandu and Murali shared a room in a small lodge in Kodaikanal for three weeks. They would rehearse dialogues late into the night, often rewriting scenes together. Murali later said those nights taught him more about comedy than any workshop.
• Sundhara Travels (2002) was the last film they made together. It was also the film that launched the career of director E. Ramdoss, who went on to make several hit comedies. Ramdoss has said in interviews that the easy chemistry between Pandu and Murali inspired him to write more buddy-comedy scripts.
• Murali once said in a 2003 interview: 'Pandu anna made me look good. He would deliberately slow down his timing so my reactions would land. I owe my comedy timing to him.'
• After Sundhara Travels (2002), Pandu and Murali drifted apart. They never had a fight — Murali just moved into more serious roles, and Pandu focused on character parts. But in 2010, when Murali passed away suddenly, Pandu was one of the first to reach the hospital. He later told a magazine: 'We didn't talk for years, but he was still my little brother.'
