• Their first film together, Ponniyin Selvan (2005), was a low-budget family drama. Devadarshini was already a known face from TV, but Mayilsamy was still a struggling comedian. The director took a chance on pairing them because he wanted a natural, non-glamorous couple — and they ended up playing husband and wife in that film.
• In Rendu (2006), Mayilsamy played a bumbling sidekick while Devadarshini played the comic relief wife.
