• A. P. Nagarajan didn't just cast Lakshmi — he wrote the role of the demon queen in 'Agathiyar' (1972) specifically for her after watching her perform in a stage play. She was only 19 and it was her first mythological film.
• On the sets of 'Rajaraja Cholan' (1973), Nagarajan would block every scene in advance, but Lakshmi had a habit of asking 'why' before every emotional beat. He later admitted her questions made him rewrite three key scenes — including the queen's confrontation with the king.
• Lakshmi was so nervous about playing the title role in 'Karaikkal Ammayar' (1973) — a saint who transforms into a skeletal ghost — that Nagarajan personally drove her to the real Karaikkal Ammaiyar temple in Puducherry before shooting began. They sat there in silence for an hour.
• The success of 'Karaikkal Ammayar' (1973) directly led to Nagarajan casting Lakshmi in his next big-budget project 'Thirumalai Deivam' (1974) — but she had to turn it down because of a date clash. That film instead launched a new actress, and Nagarajan never worked with Lakshmi again after that.
• Lakshmi once told a magazine: 'Nagarajan sir treated me like his daughter. He would scold me if I didn't eat properly on set. But the moment the camera rolled, he expected me to be a goddess — no excuses.'
