• Janagaraj was already a popular comedian when he cast Ramesh Khanna as his sidekick in 'Aan Paavam' (1985). That film marked Khanna's debut as a writer — Janagaraj pushed the director to let Khanna co-write the dialogues.
• In 'Jodi' (1999), Janagaraj played the straight man to Ramesh Khanna's hyperactive fool. Khanna would deliberately flub lines to make Janagaraj break character — and Janagaraj's genuine irritation became part of the comedy.
