• Prabhu Deva was already a huge dance star when he signed Raasaiyya (1995), but Vijayakumar was a veteran character actor. The director K. R. actually paired them because he wanted a young hero who could dance opposite a father figure — and Vijayakumar agreed only after Prabhu Deva personally requested him on set.
• In Love Birds (1996), Vijayakumar played Prabhu Deva's father. The entire emotional weight of the climax rests on Vijayakumar's silent reaction — he doesn't speak for nearly three minutes. Prabhu Deva later said that Vijayakumar's stillness made him cry for real in that scene, something he couldn't replicate with any other co-star.
• Mr. Romeo (1996) was the only film where Vijayakumar played a comedic sidekick to Prabhu Deva instead of a father figure. That shift directly inspired director K. S. Ravi to cast the same pair in a similar buddy-comedy role two years later — but the project never materialized.
• During the shoot of Raasaiyya, Vijayakumar would bring homemade biryani for the entire crew every Friday. Prabhu Deva once joked that he signed Love Birds just because Vijayakumar promised to keep the biryani tradition going. It did continue through all three films.
• Prabhu Deva said in a 2017 interview: 'Vijayakumar sir never treated me like a star. He treated me like his son. On Mr. Romeo set, he actually scolded me for not eating properly. That's the kind of bond we had.'
