Partnership facts

• Prabhu and Rambha first paired up in Uzhavan (1993) because director P. Vasu thought their contrasting energies — his earthy intensity, her bubbly charm — would sell a rural love story. It worked so well that Vasu cast them again in Sivasakthi (1996), which famously bombed.
• In Uzhavan, Rambha’s natural comic timing pushed Prabhu to loosen up his serious screen persona. He later admitted she made him laugh so much on set that the director had to yell 'cut' and reshoot scenes.
• The failure of Sivasakthi (1996) — widely considered one of the worst Tamil films of the decade — killed any chance of Prabhu and Rambha becoming a regular romantic pair. They didn't reunite for seven years, and only did Banda Paramasivam (2003) because it was a multi-star comedy where they barely shared screen time.
• Despite Sivasakthi being a disaster, Prabhu and Rambha stayed friendly off-screen. On the sets of Banda Paramasivam, they reportedly joked about the film's legendary flop status and even re-enacted one of its cringiest scenes for the crew.
• Rambha once said in a 2004 interview: 'Prabhu sir was the only hero who didn't treat me like a glamour doll. In Uzhavan, he made sure my character had real lines, not just dance numbers.'
