Partnership facts

• For their first film together, Naam (1985), director K. Vijayan didn't initially pair them. Prabhu was already a rising star, but Charle was a newcomer. Vijayan cast Charle after seeing him in a stage play — and then specifically wrote the friend role to match Charle's real-life energy, making Prabhu's character react to him.
• In Anand (1987), the film that bombed so hard it got a 1/10, Prabhu and Charle actually saved each other's performances. Charle kept improvising comic lines on set, and Prabhu — usually a straight man — started feeding him cues mid-scene. The director let them run with it. The film still tanked, but their banter is the only thing test audiences remembered.
• Charle once said in a 1999 interview that during the shoot of Dharmathin Thalaivan (1988), Prabhu would pick him up from his modest rental every morning in his own car — even though Prabhu was already a star. They'd stop for filter coffee at the same shop near Kodambakkam. Charle never forgot that gesture.
• Ponmanam (1998) was their last film together, and it directly led to Charle getting cast in a key role in the 2000 hit 'Kannukkul Nilavu' — because the director saw their easy camaraderie in Ponmanam and wanted that same vibe for his film's comedy track. Prabhu wasn't in that film, but his pairing with Charle opened that door.
